Over twenty parks grace the boundaries of
Pitt County and provide a variety of recreational opportunities
from picnicking and hiking to fishing and boating.
River Park
North

A natural area encompassing 324 acres of land and water with
1.2 miles fronting the Tar River. Includes over 250 acres
of rich bottomland forest, over 20 acres of open grassland,
and four lakes covering 48 acres. Year-round fishing, hiking
trails, picnicking and bird watching. Pedal boating offered
seasonally.
Museums:
The May Museum
and Park
The museum, located in the National Register of Historic Places-Farmville
Historic District, chronicles the cultural and commercial
heritage of Farmville and Western Pitt County from colonial
times to the present. The museum is housed in an 1870s home
and interprets the area's history through both permanent exhibits
and special programs, which are offered periodically throughout
the year. The museum is home to an extensive collection of
19th and 20th century quilts, which are displayed on a rotating
basis. Open Tuesday through Saturday 12noon until 5pm. Group
tours by appointment.
The East Carolina
Village of Yesteryear depicts life in Pitt
County and Eastern North Carolina from 1840 to 1940. A country
store with its wares, a traditional school house, a log church,
farm machinery, and other artifacts from the period spark
the interest of all who visit. Maintains seasonal hours and
open by appointment for groups.
Wellington
B. Gray Gallery, located on the East Carolina
University campus, features exhibits of nationally and internationally
known contemporary artists in fine arts, crafts, graphics,
video, and installation art, as well as student and faculty
exhibitions. Open Monday through Saturday 10am to 5pm and
Thursdays until 8pm.
Greenville
Museum of Art features changing exhibits from
its permanent collection of 19th and 20th century American
art, a well as traveling regional and national exhibits. The
museum also owns one of the largest public collections of
North Carolina Jugtown Pottery. Open Tuesday through Friday
from 10am until 4:30pm and on Saturday and Sunday from 1 pm
to 4pm.
The Ledonia
Wright African-American Cultural Center is a
cultural education facility for East Carolina University,
its visitors, and Eastern North Carolina. It houses the university's
150-piece art collection made by the Kuba of Zaire, donated
by Winston-Salem's Dr. James Lankton. Open Monday-Thursday
from 8:00am to 8:00pm and Friday from 8:00am-5:00pm.
