Between 1900 and 1903, Orville and Wilbur Wright visited the Outer Banks of NorthCarolina four times, experiencing a wild and remarkable landscape on the cusp ofmomentous change. Their groundbreaking experiments would go on to leave a lastingimpact on the region and the people who lived there.This exhibit features a traveling display from the Museum of the Albemarle, bringingtogether powerful images and compelling narratives that capture this pivotal moment inhistory—just before the dawn of the modern age, when humankind first achieved flight.Also on view are historic photographs of the Outer Banks, including the Wright brothers,the landscape, and local residents from the early 1900s, drawn from Joyner Library’sdigital collections at East Carolina University. Together, these materials offer a vivid andimmersive glimpse into a transformative era.Exhibit is on view April 13 th – May 30 th , 2026
