We are pleased to announce and congratulate Andrew Schmidt, President & CEO of the Greenville-Pitt County Convention & Visitors Bureau (Visit Greenville, NC), on his recent appointment to the North Carolina Travel and Tourism Board of 2025.

“It’s an honor to be selected to serve on the North Carolina State Travel and Tourism Board,” states Andrew Schmidt, President & CEO of Visit Greenville, NC. “I am excited to work with Visit NC staff and tourism colleagues from across our state to move one of North Carolina’s largest industries forward.”

The North Carolina Travel & Tourism Board advocates for the development of travel and tourism within North Carolina. Since its start in 1991, the board advises the Secretary of Commerce on policy matters related to promoting tourism in North Carolina.

The Travel and Tourism Board consists of 18 members from across the state who are appointed by the Governor, the Speaker of the House, the President Pro Tempore of the Senate, and various organizations within the tourism industry. Term lengths vary depending on the appointing authority with most serving two years or a combination of partial and two-year terms.

Schmidt was also recently appointed to the Economic Development Partnership of North Carolina (EDPNC) Board of Directors in November of 2024 by Governor Roy Cooper to represent the tourism industry and help foster and maintain collaboration and economic growth and development with the state’s local and regional organizations.

Tourism plays a pivotal role in the state's economic growth and engagement with local communities by inspiring travelers, leveraging partnerships, and strengthening the job market. Within the past decade, North Carolina has grown to become one of the top 10 most visited states in the U.S. sitting at #5 with a record breaking $36.7 billion spent by visitors to NC in 2024.
