Make It Your Nature
In the heart of Eastern North Carolina, Greenville-Pitt County is a place where quiet beauty comes to life. We may not have beaches or mountains, but our natural scenery is still spectacular. Find expansive parks with hiking and biking trails to explore, wetlands, the Tar River, and historic Contentnea Creek to navigate with a paddle, and miles of Greenville Greenway to roam.
We are proud partners in the Outdoor NC Alliance, a statewide movement committed to preserving and protecting North Carolina’s beloved outdoor spaces. North Carolina is the Great Trails State, and we aim to help keep our trails safe, clean, and accessible for all.
You can become a steward of North Carolina’s unique outdoor spaces. We invite you to Make it Your Nature and join the movement, and pledge to follow the 7 principles of Leave No Trace to protect and preserve our outdoor spaces!
When visiting our Greenville-Pitt County parks, we urge you to be considerate of your surroundings and the parks you are enjoying. A great rule of thumb is to follow the 7 principles of Leave No Trace, an industry standard for respecting the outdoors!
PLAN AHEAD AND PREPARE
Pitt County is home to a myriad of opportunities for outdoor recreation. Before you explore, learn about your activity and location. Check any regulations and brush up on safety matters.
STICK TO TRAILS AND OVERNIGHT RIGHT
Keep to designated trails and durable surfaces to protect our trailside plants. If camping, make sure to set up at a designated campsite. If you don't know where to start on our river, consider a local guide with Knee Deep Adventures or Riverside Recreation.
TRASH YOUR TRASH
Pack it in, pack it out. Place all trash in garbage bags and carry it home. Take it a step further and clean up any trash you see along the trail as well!
LEAVE IT AS YOU FIND IT
Pitt County has beautiful plants and animals that are great subjects in stunning photos. Snap a picture instead of picking flowers or disturbing wildlife.
BE CAREFUL WITH FIRE
If you choose to have a fire, check on regulations for the park and keep your fire small. When starting a fire, pick up sticks from the ground rather than breaking branches from trees, and buy firewood locally to avoid bringing in invasive species.
KEEP WILDLIFE WILD
Our animals are locals too! Please don’t disturb any wildlife you may come across while exploring!
SHARE OUR TRAILS
