The holiday season is spending time with your friends and family. You may be having visitors come from out of town this December, or maybe you are the visitor yourself looking for things to do in Pitt County. While there are always endless opportunities for events and activities in our area, we figured that we would save you some time and provide some inspiration for unique experiences to share with your people this season. If you want to do further research on events in the area, you can always find a plethora of events on our events calendar at any time of year!

1. Get Crafty with It

Consider taking an art class to hand-make a holiday decoration or gift for a loved one, or sign up with that loved one! There are many holiday themed art classes or activities for all ages around Pitt County! Pitt Community College is hosting an Ornament Crafting Workshop on November 29th and December 3rd. At the Farmville Public Library, they will be making wooden bead snowflake ornaments at their December Craft Night on December 14th. For the kiddos in your life, take them to the Kid's Art Night Out at Emerge Gallery in Downtown Greenville on December 8th, 9th, or 15th, where they will have a variety of crafts to do and a very special guest from the North Pole. There will also be pizza provided!

A little closer to Christmas, on December 19th and 20th, the Eppes Center in Greenville is hosting a Christmas Story Time with various craft activities as well! Any of these events is the perfect way to get in touch with your artsy side!

2. Have an Experience

I'm an experience person myself, and I love nothing more than going to a themed event or performance this time of year. If you're like me and making memories is more your style, then take a friend out on the town! Pitt County has so many opportunities year round to support the performing arts, and December is no different! If you love community theater, head to the Magnolia Arts Center to watch The Nick of Time Christmas Show. This two act collection of comedy scenes will have showtimes from December 6th - 9th, and 14th - 16th.

For a more traditional option, The Dance Art Theatre will be performing The Nutcracker at Wright Auditorium for their 31st season. Over the years, the profits of this show have contributed over $320,000 to Children's Miracle Network Hospitals. There are only 3 showings, December 9th at 2pm and 7pm, and December 10th at 2pm, so be sure to reserve your ticket ahead of time! If listening to live music, food trucks, and a festive bar is more your vibe, go to the Merry Mixer at the Greenville Museum of Art! There will be crafts for all ages, a photo booth, and a vendor market as well. While donations to the museum are appreciated, this event is free to attend!

Lastly, if a fun brunch with a group sounds like a good time, get tickets for the PiCASO Holiday Drag Brunch at The Scullery on December 10th! Seatings are at 10am and 1:30pm.

3. Shop a Holiday Market

If roaming around a market with hot cocoa is how you get in touch with your jolly spirit, explore some of the numerous holiday markets available around Pitt County! Find beautiful locally made and unique gifts at the Farmers and Makers Market in the Dickinson Avenue Arts District of Downtown Greenville. They will be hosting a holiday market for local vendors on November 25th and December 2nd. Down the road at Emerge Art Gallery, shop over 40 artists at their Holiday Artist Market. This market is open to shop during Emerge's regular business hours and open late on Fridays until Christmas Day!

Pay a visit to the Eastern Carolina Village and Farm Museum 1840 - 1940 on December 1st and 2nd, to enjoy an Old Fashioned Christmas and travel back to the year of 1864 with a candlelight farm tour, where you can see civil war reenactments and traditional Christmas Carols! The next week, enjoy food and live music at their Christmas Village Market on December 9th!

If you enjoy sipping on local brews instead, on December 10th Nauti Dog Brewing is hosting a Hops and Shops Holiday Market that will not only feature a barbecue food truck, but also a Santa photo-op for your furry friends at this dog-friendly brewery!

There will also be markets at many of the community events happening all over Pitt County. You can learn more about the community celebrations happening in Greenville, Farmville, Ayden, and Winterville in our Holiday Events Blog
